Supporting the LGBTQIA+ Community at Riverside Support Service
At Riverside Support Service, we believe that everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported for who they are.
Creating an inclusive and welcoming environment is at the heart of everything we do, and this includes our commitment to supporting individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community.
For us, inclusion is not simply a statement — it is something we actively work towards every day through learning, listening, and continuously improving the way we provide care and support.
Understanding the Importance of Inclusive Support
For many individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community, accessing care and support services can sometimes feel daunting.
Past experiences of discrimination, misunderstanding, or lack of awareness within services can make people hesitant to seek the support they need.
At Riverside, we recognise this and are committed to creating a service where people feel safe to be themselves without fear of judgement.
Every individual we support is treated with dignity, respect, and understanding.
We believe that care should always be person-centred.
This means recognising and respecting a person’s identity, relationships, experiences, and the life they have built for themselves.
Learning and Growing Together
Providing truly inclusive care requires ongoing learning.
Language evolves, understanding deepens, and best practices continue to develop.
That is why we work closely with a range of organisations, networks, and professionals who specialise in supporting the LGBTQIA+ community.
These partnerships help ensure our team stays up to date with the latest information, guidance, and training so we can provide the best possible support.
Through continued education and open conversations, we strive to build a workplace culture where learning never stops.
Creating a Safe and Respectful Environment
Our goal is simple: everyone should feel comfortable being themselves.
We encourage open communication and create spaces where people feel confident sharing their identities, preferences, and experiences.
Respecting chosen names, pronouns, relationships, and personal boundaries is a fundamental part of the support we provide.
By creating an environment built on kindness, empathy, and understanding, we aim to ensure that the people we support feel valued and respected.
Pride in Diversity
At Riverside, diversity is something we celebrate.
Our team works with people from many different backgrounds, experiences, and communities. This diversity enriches the work we do and helps us better understand the people we support.
We take great pride in learning from the individuals we work with and supporting members of the LGBTQIA+ community in a way that recognises their individuality and lived experiences.
A Commitment That Continues
Inclusion is not something that is ever “finished.” It is an ongoing commitment to listening, learning, and improving.
As a service, we are dedicated to continuing our work with organisations, educators, and community groups to ensure that Riverside remains a place where everyone feels welcome.
Because at the end of the day, care is about people — and everyone deserves to feel seen, respected, and supported for exactly who they are.
At Riverside Support Service, inclusion, diversity, and respect are not just values we talk about — they are values we live by every day. 🌈
